Yorkshire & the Humber Apprentice Profile - Gavin Hunter

Prior to starting the Level 3 NHS Apprenticeship programme, Gavin had been working as a level 2 dispenser in a community pharmacy for over a year, before which he had undertaken a full-time course at college.His community pharmacy employer recommended the Pre-registration trainee pharmacy technician programme, which he subsequently started at Sheffield College. While the course came highly recommended, he states that he gained more from it than initially expected.

Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) has always offered work experience for school and college age learners, but in addition, since March 2010 a staff volunteering programme has been in place, designed to help inspire young people and to open their eyes to the career opportunities in healthcare.This not only broadens their horizons but serves to nurture the next generation of NHS staff and gives existing staff the opportunity to mentor and support the learning of these young people, which can be a very rewarding experience.

Shine Programme - Addressing Musculoskeletal Sickness Absence

The Working Well (WW) project is one of eighteen projects that were first awarded funding in 2010 by the Shine Programme, which is delivered by the Health Foundation - an independent charity working to continuously improve the quality of healthcare in the UK. The project was implemented in February 2010 to address staff sickness absence due to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). During its first year the WW project was delivered to staff in Salford Community Health and NHS Salford.

Supporting Learners in Practice Multi-Professional Workshop

Aintree University NHS Foundation Trust, in collaboration with Edgehill University has developed a Supporting Learners in Practice (SLiP) multi-professional workshop which is designed to prepare clinical staff to support students within the work environment. This workshop is delivered to a wide range of staff from nurses through to dieticians, radiologists, scientists, physiotherapists, speech andlanguage therapists, and assistant practitioners.SLiP workshops aim to provide clinical staff with the necessary skills to support learners in practice.
