Health Education England in collaboration with the Community Health and Learning Foundation, developed bespoke health literacy awareness training materials aimed at health library and knowledge services (LKS) staff. Selected LKS staff in the North (and across England) went through an awareness and train the trainer programme to cascade this training to LKS colleagues across the region. In total, 66 people attended the full day’s awareness training and in total 111 people attended either full training or
shorter awareness workshops.
Supporting innovation and improvement by transforming the way in which evidence is applied in the commissioning of health and care services. A collaborative initiative between Innovation Agency (Academic Health Science Network for the North West Coast) and CETAD, Lancaster University. The postgraduate programme is a unique, enhanced, evidence based approach to health and care services commissioning that aims to support a culture of innovation, improvement and transformation.
The Standardised Numeracy Assessment Process (SNAP) tool is a freely accessible web-based e-learning resource that was designed to assess and improve the confidence and competence of new and existing students and healthcare employees when dealing with numeracy and drug calculations. In April 2012 the SNAP team submitted a good practice case study to eWIN which captured the key outcomes and challenges faced by the project to date, as well as background information around how and why SNAP was developed.
Skills for Health Academy North West have developed an Employment Progression Pathway (EPP) in order to provide six month post-programme support to anyone who has undertaken NHS and publically funded training programmes. The aim is to provide support for participants to successfully apply for vacancies within the North West health and care sector and the wider public sector, and to support organisations retain participants which ensures the consistent availability of applicants for band 1-4 posts.
Since 2002 NHS North-West has provided support workers with the opportunity to undertake assistant practitioner training subject to available posts and success in the selection procedures. Although 25-30% of support workers identify as BME, their representation on the Trainee Assistant Practitioner programme is less than 2%.
This poster shows the opportunities for staff and workforce development, starting with pre-employment and cadet schemes, through to apprenticeships, assistant, advanced and associate practitioners.
The Welsh Government's prudently advancing practice awardThe team at Lancashire Teaching Trust introduced supplementary radiography non medical prescribing, and a system whereby cancer patients are reviewed by a specialist radiographer in a dedicated review clinic. Patients are now reviewed weekly, or more frequently if necessary, with an approach that will also take into account their psychosocial needs, thus providing a patient-centred, holistic consultation.
