An innovative and accessible app for mobile devices has been developed that can be utilised by pre-registration learners and Trainees across all professions as well as by their mentor/educator. It provides access to resources from within the Trust, and remotely, giving learners and staff greater flexibility and options to explore resources at times to suit them.
Aintree University Hospital NHS Trust has developed an online student placement choose and book system, where students from all disciplines can select and book spoke placements. Placements are available for spokes (one to four weeks) and short visits (from a few hours up to five days). These opportunities supplement their main hub placements and lend themselves to broader learning experiences.
Aintree University NHS Foundation Trust (Aintree FT) has a number of Practice Education Facilitators (PEFs) in place who have developed a programme of multi-professional study days to deliver training on core subjects such as anatomy and physiology at a level that can be understood by all students regardless of their stage of training. This allows students to learn and interact across professional boundaries.One of the core outcomes of the PEF role is to help deliver the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Standards in practice for Pre-Registration Nursing Education (2010).
Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust’s Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)Team have developed a structured five day bespoke placement for third year student nurses incorporating the management outcomes of their final placement relevant to IPC.The Core Outcomes of the placement covers MRSA; Clostridium difficile and Norovirus, which were selected because they are the most common organisms encountered on the wards. Students are also able to suggest two learning outcomes of their own.
Aintree University NHS Foundation Trust, in collaboration with Edgehill University has developed a Supporting Learners in Practice (SLiP) multi-professional workshop which is designed to prepare clinical staff to support students within the work environment. This workshop is delivered to a wide range of staff from nurses through to dieticians, radiologists, scientists, physiotherapists, speech andlanguage therapists, and assistant practitioners.SLiP workshops aim to provide clinical staff with the necessary skills to support learners in practice.
