Trust pioneers new apprenticeship scheme

Healthcare Science Apprenticeships The scheme created by Health Education Yorkshire and the Humber to develop a new training route for Bands 2 - 4 in Healthcare Science. Apprentice medical laboratory assistants, Rachel Taylor and Nathan Baldwin, work for laboratory medicine while Amy Bond and Amy Martin have been assigned to both Neurophysiology and Cardio-Respiratory in a brand new apprenticeship role. Joanne Horrocks, Neurophysiology Manager, explained: "This is an exciting new scheme across Health Education Yorkshire and the Humber to develop this new training route for Bands 2 - 4 in Healthcare Science. The role across two the disciplines is aimed at not only providing a more flexible approach to the delivery of the training, but also the work that the apprentice will do once qualified. This more flexible approach to the use of skills has led to development of this new apprenticeship role, which is hoped will be mimicked nationally. "The apprenticeships are a perfect way to train on the job and to develop a career in the NHS. Each department lead at the Trust has worked very closely with apprenticeship leads in HR to develop the job descriptions"
