STEMTECH Careers Event

The careers event was held to showcase career opportunities in Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM subjects). The event provided an opportunity to showcase NHS careers in STEM subjects and in particular Apprenticeship opportunities that are being currently advertised in Pharmacy, Healthcare Science, the Ambulance service and Dental Nursing. Opportunities in all these disciplines will be advertised in the next few weeks and the majority of these Apprenticeships are planned to start September 2015.

Inspirational Story: Healthcare Apprenticeships in GP practices

Primary Care. As many people’s first point of contact with the NHS, around 90% of patient interaction is with primary care services. In Yorkshire and the Humber there are circa 800 GP practices. As well as doctor and nurse provision these practices are increasing the numbers of Health Care Assistants (HCA’s) they are employing. Apprenticeship Inspiring Story: Matthew Carlisle

Apprenticeships in Healthcare ScienceApprenticeships in Healthcare Science is a regional innovative initiative created by Health Education Yorkshire to encourage NHS Trusts to use Apprenticeships as a way to develop new roles and to introduce skill mix within a number of different healthcare science disciplines and clinical skills facilities. Apprentice Matthew Carlisle is one of over 60 apprentices in the region who are working in many wide ranging science roles.

IPE Evaluation Report in Yorkshire and the Humber

MDT Placement WorkshopsThe workplace MDT workshops are open to final year health and social care students on placement in Yorkshire and Humber and aim to develop understandings about professional roles and team working. Since 2005, 335 workshops have been delivered at local authority and NHS sites involving 2506 students from 13 different professions (involving the Universities of Bradford, Huddersfield, Leeds and Leeds Beckett University).Student feedback continues to be positive with workshop format and content still regarded highly (see full report and appendices for further det
